Happy Friday!
I hope you all have gotten a head start on reading module 3 and working out some of the problems. Make sure that as you read and do the problems you are writing down any questions you might have so that we can work on it Monday. Module 3 will be exploring the world of atoms and molecules. Get yourself familiar with the periodic table, because it will become your best friend and is the back bone of chemistry. Remember where the metals, nonmetals, and transition metals are located. Those elements on the periodic table bond together to make compounds, which is what we will be studying the rest of the year.
On Monday we will be doing The Conservation of Mass lab (experiment 3.1 pg. 71). Lab partners are changing, so check in with your new partner to divide up the materials that need to be brought to lab. We will be using 2 beakers, a watch glass, a teaspoon, lye, white vinegar, several leaves of red cabbage, water, small pot, measuring cup, something to heat water, stirring rod (or spoon), safety goggles and gloves. The gloves and goggles are important for this lab since lye is a strong base (which you guys will learn about later). If you are having any trouble gathering any of the material please let me know and I can try and bring some stuff in, or make sure someone else can bring extra.
Lab Partners
Faith T. & Emily M.
Tirzah W. & Stephen L.
Sara M. & Taylor W.
Julia W. & Jillian R.
Due this Monday is your Specific Heat of a Metal Lab Report, as well as the conservation of mass prelab.
Message me with any questions.
Thank you.
